Beginning in 1903, Mr. W. A. Bulluck founded a retail furniture company in the small Southern town of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. In 1962 Bulluck's grandson, Bill Kincheloe, became manager of the company. He added a special department in the store for lamps and lampshades and became fascinated by the process of making customized lamps at the request of some of his customers. By 1970, he had created a small line of quality hand crafted lamps. Upon hiring a salesman to sell these lamps to other furniture stores, Wildwood Lamp Company was officially born. In the 1980's, Wildwood expanded its line to include decorative accessories, floor and wall screens, mirrors and a number of eclectic pieces of furniture. In 1992, Wildwood added a new division called "Wildwood Casual". With the addition of Wildwood Casual, Wildwood now offers an additional style category which focuses on less formal, more casual lamps for today's way of living. Lamps and accessories designed for the cabin, country home or cottage styling found in many of today's homes and second homes. Wildwood utilizes a porcelain kiln in Western North Carolina, with artists who sculpt models and hand paint vases, many fired to temperatures yielding true porcelain. In addition, Wildwood operates a specialized finishing facility for ceramics, wood and iron. Chandeliers too, have been added to the Wildwood range. In 1992 Wildwood introduced selected chandelier styles in both formal and casual styling. The current offering has more than 75 styles ranging from the solid brass of Colonial America, to casual wood and iron, to elegant gold and crystal European creations. Today, Wildwood Lamp Company occupies an 80,000 square foot facility, employs over 100 people, and hand crafts over 50,000 lamps yearly. Wildwood produces 1000 different traditional and transitional lamps styles and 3,000 accent pieces from artware of pure brass, crystal, porcelain, alabaster and other fine materials that are specially designed and chosen from sources around the globe. Each piece is painstakingly sanded, painted, polished, wired, assembled and packaged by hand in the North Carolina facility to insure the high quality and beauty that you can expect from a Wildwood Lamp. |
